Nov 15 John Envon, John Rugg, John Thome et al d. 1539 bl 1895

John and Thommy

Good morning
I love you

John Evnon, John Rugg, and John Thome and others [though not named John].
d. 1539 bl. 1895

Martyrs each and all.

John Evnon was a pastor of a local parish in St Giles. He refused to surrender his parish and he refused to take the Oath of Supremacy.

John Rugg was a monk at the Reading Abbey. [I’ve been to Reading, with John, and we passed by the Abbey on our way to Dublin. I didn’t realize the Abbey’s Catholic import when we were there in 1988.] John Rugg refused to take the Oath of Supremacy.

John Thome was at the Abbey of Glastonbury. He refused to yield the property of the Benedictines, of the Church even though the force of law and arms stood against them. The powers that be will use any means to get you to give up your faith – even threaten directly or subtly to take away all your possessions; even to give you an F on paper for which you do right and righteous work.

When your faith is threatened. When you and your possessions are threatened in lieu of your surrendering your faith, remember the English martyrs like these Johns! Only you can give up your soul, that cannot be taken from you.

I love you
dad
